The Medea Insurrection. Radical Women Artists Behind the Iron Curtain

Medea Muckt Auf / The Medea Insurrection is the first east-eastern contextualisation of nonconformist, female art production in the DDR; the catalogue is published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at Kunsthalle im Lipsiusbau, Dresden, and the Wende Museum, Culver City, that proposes an international overview of 36 female artists. 

Artists surveyed are Magdalena Abakanowicz, Allerleirauh, Tina Bara, Annemirl Bauer, Sibylle Bergemann, Geta Brătescu, Anna Daučíková, Orshi Drozdik, Erfurt Women Artists’ Group, Else Gabriel, Angela Hampel, Christa Jeitner, Magdalena Jetelová, Judit Kele, Běla Kolářová, Alena Kučerová, Zofia Kulik, Katalin Ladik, Natalia LL, Ana Lupaş, Dóra Maurer, Ewa Partum, Evelyn Richter, Zofia Rydet, Zorka Ságlová, Christine Schlegel, Cornelia Schleime, Gundula Schulze Eldowy, Gabriele Stötzer, Erika Stürmer-Alex, Hanne Wandtke, Karla Woisnitza (INGARTAN), and Doris Ziegler.
