BALDWIN, Michael; RAMSDEN, Mel; MULIER, Erik (eds.)
Conceptual Art and other Essays by Art & Language. 1965-2023
A chronological illustrated analysis of 58 years of work by the collective Art & Language – in a surprisingly conservative (if I may) hardcover, catalogue form.
For the newbies: Art & Language is an artists’ collective that was founded in 1965 by a group of British and American artists, who were also the editors of the groundbreaking journal Art-Language (first published in Coventry in May 1969), that was of “crucial importance” for conceptual art, and proposed theoretical understanding of art that didn’t shy away either from form or politics. Artists associated with A&L were Terry Atkinson, Michael Baldwin, Harold Hurrell, David Bainbridge, and later, Joseph Kosuth, Ian Burn, Mel Ramsden.
By 1976 the genealogical thread of this artistic work had been taken into the hands of Michael Baldwin and Mel Ramsden, with whom it remains.
