VISSER, Mattijs (ed.)
ZERO 1957–1966 NY 2008
A brick-like catalogue that offers a comprehensive view of the ZERO movement. Starting in the lid-1950s it grew out of the Düsseldorf artist’s community (Heinz Mack Otto Piene, Günther Uecker…) to become a dynamic, international network, with Nanda Vigo, Yayoi Kusama, Yves Klein, Jean Tinguely, Tsuruko Yamazaki, Arman, Piero Manzoni, among their “membres.” The book traces the history of the movement from its immediate beginnings in 1957 to its dissolution in 1966, and shows in detail the work of several of its artists.
With texts by Otto Piene, Heike Van Den Valentyn, Valerie L. Hillings, and Catherine Millet.
First published in German by Museum Kunst Palast Düsseldorf in 2006, on the occasion of the exhibition ZERO Internationale Künstler Avantgarde der 50er/60ed Jahre (cur. Jean-Hubert Martin, Heike Van Den Valentyn, and Mattijs Visser); English edition published on the occasion of the exhibition Zero in New York at Sperone Westwater in NYC, 2008.
