The Diva Who Became an Alphabet

The Diva Who Became an Alphabet sheds light on the intriguing and lesser-known history of how a dry transfer typeface inspired renowned type designer and art director Hans Donner (b. 1948), best known for his work with Globo TV, to discover the perfect typographic face in Brazil. The publication includes a type specimen presented in non-alphabetical order, highlighting the Diva’s many subtle features and stylistic nuances. Anna Franceschini’s short story and accompanying video installation, which share the title, challenge Donner’s objectifying tendencies by giving the Diva both a face and a voice. [publishers’ note]
