A translation of Jean Genet’s text Violence et brutalité, published in Le Monde in 1977, an examination of violence and brutality in Europe, in defence of the Red Army Faction, whose key members were soon after found dead in prison.

The translation is prefaced with an essay on the history of the Red Army Faction, the “German Autumn of terror” and the long years of the 1970s leading up to it; and Jean Genet’s entanglement in risk, repression and revolutionary movements.
