STOCKTON, Rosie
Public Domain – Issue #5 | Rosie Stockton: Gusher
In each issue of Public Domain, a distinct voice is invited to select a sequence of images culled from the public domain. Expanding and accessible grants, broadband internet and affordable scanning technology has made available massive caches of otherwise inaccessible material, formerly sitting in institutions around the world. With this publication series, Apogee Graphics willfully reanimates these archives by putting their holdings back into circulation.
In this issue, Los Angeles poet Rosie Stockton mines the unconscious of the petroleum complex. Inspired by Sigmund Freud’s reported comparison between psychoanalysis and drilling for oil, Gusher connects images of industry, ecology, destruction and desire to confront a subject larger than language.
