LOCUS ✸ SOLUS

In 2019 coyote started a still ongoing project with the Filmklasse at Kunsthochschule Mainz, their professor John Skoog and the italian artist Marcello Spada. In this collaborative project we used Raymond Roussel’s novel Locus Solus as a starting point, and explored what happens if one uses LARP (live-action-role-play) speculative fiction as a documentary tool, as a way of approaching a specific site. In our case the defunct Apollo cinema, the Villa Tina and the adjoining garden in Bellaria on the Adriatic coast of Italy. Merging local myths, family history, collective memories and physical facts with the array of characters and inventions in Locus Solus resulted in a 48 hour LARP in which all the collaborators partook.[publishers’ note]
