Landscape of Defence. Latvia: Postcards from the Borderland
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the European Union’s eastern borders have been dramatically reshaped. Fences, surveillance systems, guard towers, and anti-tank barriers have turned once-abstract lines into physical, militarised landscapes. Latvia is no exception. Construction is ongoing, but the area is already transformed, and new regulations restrict access. This collection of postcards features photographs by Reinis Hofmanis from the “Borderland” – a two-kilometre-wide strip along Latvia’s eastern border. More than just a buffer zone, this area is also home to villages, research facilities, and newly built military infrastructure. A glimpse at life on the edge of Europe. [publisher's notes]
