Joan Jonas is on our mind
This publication accompanies a year-long season about and around the work of Joan Jonas, held at CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts in San Francisco, from September 9, 2014 to June 30, 2015.
It gathers new essays by Lynne Tillman, Sarah Lehrer-Graiwer, Patricia Maloney, Judith Rodenbeck, Jacqueline Francis, Renée Green, Elizabeth Mangini, and Quinn Latimer; as well as ideas, pictures, documents, quotes, miscellanous and suggestive bits of texts and images, in direct relation to Joan Jonas’s work or not, that form a book the goal of which “is not to ‘explain’ Jonas or in some way demistify her ideas, but to complicate and animate her work”—as CCA Wattis director Anthony Huberman cleverly puts it in his introduction to the book.
