Connectings

Which code to read the world with? Which story to invoke the world with? Connectings is an artist’s book by Adéla Součková that addresses the contemporary mythological world. Součková’s pictographic blue and red line drawings depict a human gaining self-awareness through the connection between the Sky and the Earth.

Connectings, offers images that we ourselves must add to the story and bring to life. Connection to the questions after overcoming binarity is supported by Součková’s visual style: red and blue, referring to elemental symbolism, do not belong to one or the other character, and imperfection is not an insufficiency, but rather an advantage for adaptation. It is easy to adhere to our own problems and issues, but it is necessary that the global is also the intimate (because the political is personal). Součková draws on myths older than monotheistic religions, in which she gains inspiration for weakening the duality of the real and the digital, the masculine and the feminine, or the meaningless division between culture and nature. Součková's drawings and texts can be read as interpretations of the cycle of birth and death, a call for a metamorphosis of the perception of humans and their place in society. [publishers’ note]
