Arthur Jafa’s ***** is a reinterpretation, or détournement, or retake, or remake, or find the right word, of the final gunfight in Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, featuring black characters instead of the original cast. Published in conjunction with the presentation of the work at Gladstone Gallery, New York, this publication gathers texts by Amy Taubin and Beth Coleman that unfold the questions of representation, politics, and form, at stake in these moving images, their circulation and (re)invention.
