(re)enchanting the elephant

(re)enchanting the elephant is a re-writing of the history of the Latin American community of London and the gentrification of its neighbourhood, Elephant & Castle, incorporating elements of magical realism.

It was produced during a residency period at 56a Infoshop, an archive of radical social movements based in Elephant & Castle, by mixing three parts of the archive’s collection: archival material on the gentrification of the area, on Latin American social struggles from the 1960s – onwards, and on magick and esoteric groups, to explore the potential of worldbuilding and fiction in activism and archival art practices.
