John Cage: A Mycological Foray—Variations on Mushrooms

The author of Silence said in 1954: “I have come to the conclusion that much can be learned about music by devoting oneself to the mushroom.” This publication is thus dedicated to another side of John Cage: the fungi lover.

A Mycological Foray—Variations on Mushrooms gathers two volumes in a beautiful dark green slipcase. The first encompasses Cage’s mycological-oriented works: photographs, illustrations, ephemera, Indeterminacy stories, Diary excerpts, and the complete transcript of Cage’s 1983 performance, Mushrooms et Variationes. The second volume is the inaugural reproduction of Cage’s 1972 portfolio, Mushroom Book, created in collaboration with illustrator Lois Long and botanist Alexander H. Smith.

An extended mushroom-foraging expedition in printed form, with texts by Kingston Trinder and Isabelle Bucklow.
