Seven works by Isabelle Cornaro, each a different gathering of small items, trinkets, or personal effects, upon the dusk of a painted carpet.
The objects Isabelle Cornaro works with are marked by opacity; the significations that may be attached to them are all the more present, and strongly felt. A key, a chain, a toy, all become fascinating and curious phenomena made of light, color, shine—that is to say, attraction, want, power. In the series Golden Memories another “motion” is at stake, as the coloured backgrounds repeat the chance patterns that appear upon the floors of the artist’s studio, when she applies spray paint on sculptures or props.
Isabelle Cornaro’s work ranges from painting and sculpture to film and installation; it highlights tensions inside of our world of things, between the social, the aesthetic and the mystical, or between desire, melancholy, and ownership. Cornaro is represented by galleries Balice Hertling in Paris, Francesca Pia in Zurich, and Hannah Hoffman in Los Angeles.
