Texte Zur Kunst 34/134 (Juni 2024) Sculpture
The category of sculpture has been making a comeback. Young artists, in particular, have resorted to this traditional term to characterize their works in three dimensions. But an observer expecting that such an ostensible terminological revival would go hand in hand with a return to genre-specific techniques or materials will be disappointed: the steadily growing diversity of works defined as sculptural today has in fact fueled a progressive dissolution of the concept’s boundaries. Despite – or precisely because of – this elasticity, the new issue of TZK inquires into the advantages that artists as well as art scholars and critics believe the concept of sculpture has to offer. Contributors to this issue include Rachel Haidu, Paulina Pobocha, Simon Baier… Also a roundtable with Dan Lie, Dineo Seshee Bopape, Judith Hopf, and Mariechen Danz, moderated by Mirjam Thomann and Christopher Weickenmeier.
