Shepherd’s Notes IV / Piemenų užrašai IV [08-09/2023]

Shepherd’s Notes is a series published in the context of the residency program, “Creative Pastures of the Spinners”: artists live and work in a farmhouse in the village of Kabeliai, in southeastern Lithuania, and sharee the responsibility of tending the flock of Skudde sheep. The residency offers an opportunity to work closely with a rural community of small farmers, naturalists, craftspeople, and to experience sheep herding as a platform for creative work, a school of coexistence with the Other. The Shepherd’s Notes are a spacefor past and future shepherds to interact: it is a shepherd-creator’s pocket guide in the land of sheep, composed of fragments of experiences and hints of artwork.

In this issue, notes, photographs and documents recount the experiences of artists Cecilia Charlton – researched on weaving patterns –, Johanna Grivel – a diary and poems –, Vaiva Granytė – reflection on mythology, time, and the bodies of animals and humans –, and Ieva Maslinskaitė – drawings, pictures, notes, “soaked in time walking through a giant metaphor.”
