Illastrations

This is the facsimile of an undated sketchbook of drawings by Jason Rhoades – in a light slipcase. As a sculptor working at EPIC scale, Rhoades (1965–2006) used everyday materials to systematically explore life’s big questions. This book serves as a guide to his art by illustrating key concepts, materials, and personal references with didactic cartoons that are humorously enlightening in their own right. (See: abstraction, ceramics repair, Marcel Duchamp, unfair.) Entries are organized by keyword in roughly alphabetical and numerical order: letters A to G are followed by Z to L with a similar switchback in numbers that skip from 1–135 to 394–338 before returning to 170, 195, 138.
