Head

Los Angeles-based photographer Danielle Neu's debut monograph.
Head brings together photographs taken by Danielle Neu over the past seven years. This body of work includes a diverse range of images: fish and other life forms captured in aquariums and cages; portraits of actors, performers, and artists, as well as fragments of their naked bodies; deserted interior spaces, among them a reconstruction of the bedroom from 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Elvis Presley's airplane, the Lisa Marie, from which Neu isolates certain elements—bedroom, bathroom, cabin seats—their surfaces covered by a protective layer of plastic. Each image engages with postwar American cultural landscapes and discourses, particularly those of Hollywood, where the desire for fiction manifests within reality itself.
