The drawings shown in Brain Box, Dream Box fully disclose Paul McCarthy’s line of thought and work processes for the past 35 years – the use of a vocabulary of taboos, sex and violence inflated to an extreme. What becomes clear is how scrupulous and direct McCarthy’s pictorial vocabulary is and how, through the most hackneyed metaphorical analogues, his exaggerations and blowups countermine media, politics and Hollywood ideals.
