Maria Eichhorn’s work Κτίριο ως περιουσία άνευ ιδιοκτήτη / Building as Unowned Property was produced on the occasion of documenta 14 in Athens: it consists in the purchase of a piece of real estate in Athens, on which the legal status of unowned property is then conferred so as to create a free site where global capitalism’s impact on the urban fabric can be rethought in an artistic and feminist-Marxist perpective.

The publication depicts the process of property acquisition and transfer to non-ownership, through a wealth of work documents, from the artist’s project proposal, legal texts, historical maps and images, to the notarised purchase agreement and the land register entry. [publishers’ note]
