An Exhibition History of Latin American Art / Una historia de exposiciones de arte latinoamericano
An Exhibition History of Latin American Art compiles texts by twenty-one Latin American curators who were asked to select an exhibition that took place in Latin America or focused on the work of Latin American artists and justify its importance, relevance, and influence. The history of Latin American art exhibitions that is thus constructed considers the array of social and institutional contexts where art is created, presented, and experienced, as well as the ideologies inherent in diverse mechanisms of display and interpretative tools. Spanning exhibitions, performance programs, and biennials from 1965 to 2021, the publication suggests a vernacular history of curatorial practice as told by figures who are shaping the field of Latin American art today.
Una historia de exposiciones de arte latinoamericano reúne textos de veintiún curadores latinoamericanos invitados a seleccionar una exposición celebrada en América Latina o centrada en la obra de artistas latinoamericanos y justificar su importancia, relevancia e influencia. La historia de las exposiciones de arte latinoamericano que así se construye considera la variedad de contextos sociales e institucionales en los que se crea y presenta el arte, así como las ideologías inherentes a los diversos mecanismos expositivos y herramientas interpretativas. Abarcando exposiciones, programas de performances y bienales desde 1965 hasta 2021, la publicación sugiere una historia vernácula de la práctica curatorial, contada por las figuras más influyentes del campo del arte latinoamericano contemporáneo.
