Rene Ricard. 1979-1980

A new edition of the late Rene Ricard’s first book of poetry, originally published in the Dia Art Foundation in 1979. A painter, a poet and a writer, Rene Ricard joined Andy Warhol’s Factory upon his arrival in the mid-1960’s. A figure of the New York scene of the 1970s and 1980s, he wrote for ArtForum the famous cover story “The Radiant Child,” which was instrumental in drawing attention on Jean-Michel Basquiat. 

This edition presents, in a new format, both the original book design—inspired by Tiffany jewellery catalogues—reproduced as a facsimile, and the first French translation of Ricard’s poems, with an introduction by Rachel Valinsky.

Le premier recueil du poète et peintre américain Rene Ricard (1946-2014), édité pour la première fois par la Dia Art Foundation en 1979. Figure du New York underground des années 1960 et 1970, Ricard rejoint à 18 ans la Factory d'Andy Warhol et se lie d'amitié avec Gerard Malanga, éditeur pour la Dia. Contributeur régulier d’ArtForum dans les années 1980, il y publie notamment “The Radiant Child”, article qui lancera la carrière de Jean-Michel Basquiat. 

Cette édition présente, dans un nouveau format, la maquette originale du livre – inspirée par les catalogues de joaillerie de Tiffany’s – et la première traduction française des poèmes, réalisée par Manon Lutanie et Rachel Valinsky.
