DELANY, Samuel R.
The Jewels of Aptor | Captive of the Flame
“You know, I can’t just go around saying it was awful. I think I’m going to write a poem. Or make something. Or both. I’ve got to get it out of my head.”
\°0°/ A double Samuel R. Delany volume = 2 books in 1! The Jewels of Aptor (1962) is Delany’s first published novel: set in a post-atomic future, it recounts the journey of Geo, a poet working as a sailor on a boat heading toward Aptor, a land of mutants and radiation, in the company of a Priestess of Argo. Captives of the Flame (1963) is a “science fantasy” novel that opens the “Fall of the Towers” trilogy: set against the backdrop of a future Earth, the narrative follows the protagonist, Jon Koshar, as he navigates a world divided by psychic abilities and political unrest.
